Tacoma Defiance

Vote. You Just Gotta Vote.

In a time where change is constantly debated in real time, being personally engaged is crucial. From the clerk at the bodega across the street to your 8th grade cousin on TikTok (RIP?), everyone’s got an opinion and more often than not, they’re pretty immovable in those beliefs.

We bring this up because ballots are due tomorrow for the 2020 Washington State Primary, and while it’s too late to register for this round, this is a reminder of two things.

  1. It’s not too late to register for November’s big election (you can do that online here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/register.aspx)
  2. If your ballot’s just sitting on your counter in a pile of toll bills and back issues of Sky Mall Magazine, you’ve got 24 hours to get your hind quarters in gear.

We know that politics falls in the category of “Things You Don’t Talk About at Thanksgiving,” but voting in local, state, national elections is non-negotiable. It’s a crux in being a meaningful part of the ever churning conversation about actual change.

If you don’t vote, you certainly have no place to complain, engage in Twitter wars, or shame your uncle for his views on zoning policies.

Inform yourself here, fill in the little circles next to the candidates you think will do the best job representing your values, and get that little biddy to the mail box by Tuesday AM.

Thank you for doing your civic duty and being an engaged citizen.

Until next time, Keep it Defiant, Tacoma.
