Bettering our Community, Giving Back

We’ll be hosting a special Tacoma Rainiers and Tacoma Defiance Family and Friends Donor Day offering the opportunity for us all to do our part to step up, donate and spread the word of the current blood supply shortage in the Pacific Northwest. Let's show the world that the South Sound never shies away from a challenge.

How to Donate Blood and Helpful Tips:

  1. Register to be a blood donor participant this Thursday and show up to your scheduled appointment in Rainiers or Defiance gear, snap a pic, and encourage others to do their part by posting to social media using the hashtag #SouthSoundProud.
    • Anyone in good health, at least 18 years old, and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate whole blood every 56 days.
    • Prep for your appointment by drinking extra glasses of water and eating a healthy breakfast
  2. The process upon arrival to Cheney Stadium is easy and safe:
    1. Show Photo ID to Register
    2. Fill out questionnaire to confirm eligibility to donate
    3. Short interview and health check with the technician
    4. Recline on cot for blood donation
    5. Refreshments
  3. For the safety of donors and staff, donor centers are currently not allowing children under the age of 16 at donor centers or mobile sites.
  4. Maintain appropriate distance from other donors, especially in the waiting area and refreshment area.
  5. Follow Bloodworks Northwest and/or Cheney Stadium staff’s lead on directions to minimize touch and maximize social distancing.
  6. Wash/sanitize your hands as indicated and as often as you’re comfortable.
  7. Book your next donation time and donate more frequently: By making blood donation a regular habit, you help ensure safe and reliable care for patients in our community.
  8. Encourage others to donate and spread the word about the need to donate blood regularly.
  9. Contact Bloodworks Northwest if you are unwell after donating.
