Tacoma Defiance

A Grand Voyage Begins

Prepare your bottles of bubbly, Tacoma. It’s almost time to christen our voyage of 2020. The good ship Tacoma Defiance sets sail for the first time in 2020 on Friday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. Facing Reno 1868 FC your men in black are ready to test themselves on another adventure through the Western United States.

These now-savvy veterans witnessed the glory of a Cup for their comrades on the First Team. Many earned trophies with the Academy. They ended 2019 with a five-match unbeaten run. Now, their compasses point towards the future.

Cheney Stadium is ready for the home openerOn this journey, they will be challenged. There are rough seas, mountain passes, deserts, and giants blocking them. Fortunate enough to have a friendly homeport here in Tacoma, Defiance are able to recharge and refresh in the comforting arms of Cheney Stadium.

Here on the rise above Commencement Bay, a welcoming crowd greets them. This band of Defiant Men are ready – for you, for the challenge, for Reno. Arrive early. Against 1868 at home, Defiance scored in the 1st minute twice, including Justin Dhillon’s record-setting 9.17 second goal.

Reno finished 2019 second in the USL Championship Western Conference. For 2020 they added to service Academy talents. Former Pittsburgh Riverhound and U.S. Naval Academy grad Joseph Greenspan will anchor their defense. Tucker Bone, the Air Force Academy grad who Seattle Sounders drafted in 2019, made the move from Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to Reno 1868 FC.

Let us start the season off with waving flags, a rousing cheer, and the continuation of Tacoma’s inaugural day winning streak.
