Short post today – I can’t quite put my finger on why, but these 12:05 Sunday games in Las Vegas seem to come earlier than the 12:05 Sunday games in other cities.
The Rainiers need a win today in order to get their first series split of the season. Tacoma won two of the first three games here, but have now lost back-to-back contests going into today’s sixth and final game.
After today’s game the Rainiers will spend the night here in Las Vegas, and then fly on the off-day Monday to Salt Lake City. Our next blog post will come prior to Tuesday’s series opener at Salt Lake.
RAINIERS DAILY
YESTERDAY: Las Vegas scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking open a close game on the way to a 10-2 win over Tacoma. The Rainiers made a season-high three errors, leading to four unearned runs. Mason McCoy had two of Tacoma’s six hits.
TODAY: Tacoma Rainiers (7-16) at Las Vegas Aviators (12-11), 12:05.
OPPONENT AFFILIATION: Oakland A’s.
OPPOSING MANAGER: Fran Riordan.
SEASON SERIES: Las Vegas leads, 3-2.

ROSTER MOVES: Yesterday the Mariners called up outfielder Stuart Fairchild from Tacoma. The Rainiers added reliever Yohan Ramirez to the active roster, and transferred reliever Fred Villarreal back to Everett. The team signed pitcher Konner Wade and he’ll be joining the Rainiers starting rotation at some point this coming week.
HOT HITTERS: Sam Haggerty has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, totaling 18 hits including four homers, and is 9-for-20 in this series… Mason McCoy has reached base in nine straight games, hitting safely in eight of them… Zach Green has a six-game hitting streak… Ben Ramirez has a four-game hitting streak.
OPPONENT NEWS: Las Vegas has played three six-game series and split all three of them, 3-3… Eric Thames has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games. Thames played for Tacoma in 2013 before becoming a huge star in the Korean Baseball Organization… catcher Shea Langeliers is a highly-ranked prospect who was the key return when Oakland traded Matt Olson to Atlanta, he’s homered three times in the last two games… Dermis Garcia has a four-game hitting streak; he hit 31 home runs in Double-A last year (with a .210 batting average)… Nate Mondou has hit safely in 13 of 16 games this season; the Lake Tapps native went to high school in Tacoma at Charles Wright Academy.
