Guide to Defiantly Tacoma: Peaks and Pints

EDITOR’S NOTE: Let’s be honest. Few things have gotten us through the last three months like our visits to Proctor District’s Peaks and Pints. Their vast halls full of windows of delicious, well curated beer and ciders have been open throughout the entirety of this stay at home situation and thank heavens for it. We caught up with the bottle shop/taproom/eatery’s co-owner Ron Swarner to give us the lowdown on what he’s drinking to beat the heat of COVID-19. As always, it’s of upmost importance to stay hydrated, Tacoma.

Ron Swarner: While life has been different for most people these last several months, one thing that remains the same is our love for craft beer. Peaks & Pints is thankful that breweries are continuing to produce delicious and innovate beers during these wild times. We continue to savor the best liquid gold that we can get our hands on and we can assure you, these five beers all highly delectable. This is what we’re drinking this week.

Breakside Chocolate Brandy Alexander

Breakside Chocolate Brandy Alexander

BREAKSIDE BREWERY CHOCOLATE BRANDY ALEXANDER: Sometimes you need booze and chocolate. This imperial milk stout tastes like a chocolate truffle filled with brandy. So, yeah, it’s really damn good. 8.4% ABV

E9 BREWING TAC CITY LAGER: Sometimes you don’t want to fall asleep while on your riding lawn mower. This punchy lager is filtered and dry hopped with a copious amount of Cascade for classic citrus, grapefruit aromatics. 5.9% ABV

FREMONT PRIDE SEATTLE KOLSCH: This celebratory Kölsch wraps a rainbow flag around the entire state via cans and draft. Net proceeds are donated to Seattle’s Pride Foundation. In regards to the Kölsch, it’s a sessionable brew with Huell Melon and Loral hops for notes of biscuit, hay, light citrus and a touch of honey. 5.5% ABV

ROCHEFORT 10 TRAPPIST ALE: The monks at Rochefort have clearly taken advantage of their long brewing tradition to perfect their craft. Considered one of the best Belgium quads on the planet, possibly all planets, expect a tasty, rich, and complex ale with a sherry and port character not found in most others. 11.3% ABV

Stuctures City of Solace

Structures City of Solace

STRUCTURES CITY OF SOLACE: Stellar hazy IPA with flavor of orange pith, pineapple, mild berry and mellow citrus. Really nice sweetness that gives a good balance. What makes a killer beer — it’s all about the mouthfeel, and Structures nails it. 8.5% ABV

ED: So, there you have it. You’ve been given the roadmap to refreshment by the guru himself. Stay tuned for more guest features as we take to the streets of Tacoma (socially distanced and masked, of course) to give you the ins and outs of making it in this city we call home.

Please drink responsibly.
