We have to admit, we chuckled when a certain local NHL team recently dropped their new name and mascot. We totally get it. The Kraken is awesome. We even thought it was a cool enough thing to make a part of our badge and uniform first.
Now, everyone knows the iconic Giant Pacific Octopus that inspired the mythical figure lives underneath Tacoma’s Narrows Bridge. Its image is everywhere you look in this city. To our friends on skates that call Seattle home, we say:
Welcome to Tacoma’s party.
It’s match day for our Men in Black, as Tacoma Defiance take to the road tonight against vaunted rivals Las Vegas Lights FC. They’re a chippy bunch over there in Sin City, and it seems like every time these teams take the field, the refs start seeing red (cards, that is).
Now’s the time to Embrace the Kraken. May our Defiantly Tacoma band wrap the Lights up in their tentacles, enveloping them in a sea of confusion and mayhem. May we slip away with three points and return home safely to our familiar seas of Washington State.
