Defiantly Tacoma Guide to South Sound Sweets

Anybody having a hard time being their usual sweet selves lately?

Through the ups and downs of the last however many months we’ve been riding the bus through COVID Town, USA we’ve really been feeling some mood swings. We’ll admit it. Our friends, families, and pets have been on the receiving end of some crabbiness. We even snapped back at a house plant the other day for being too needy.

Summer’s full speed ahead, however, and when approached safely (mask up!), there are some sweet treats out there that have been helping brighten our mood. We’ve detailed a few of our favorites here with a Defiantly Tacoma Guide to South Sound Sweets.

Boba Lust Cafe

Boba Lust is the destination for those on a journey to find perfect bubble tea, where strong tea flavors and technique intersect with a SoCal style boba and genuine hospitality. Concentrating on the simplicity of being sincere and thoughtful, Boba Lust is a neighborhood spot focusing on the important things: freshly brewed tea through advanced extraction methods, consistently chewy and flavorful honey boba, and SoCal style feel with open concrete and an upbeat vibe. Ask about their secret menu. Trust us.

Corina Bakery

Every day their talented bakers prepare a delightful assortment of sweets & savories. Here you’ll find everything from irresistible scones and muffins to sumptuous pies, cheesecakes and couture wedding cakes. All made the old-fashioned way; from scratch. They also bake delicious creations that are gluten-free, vegan, and soy-free. Points for that.

Bliss Small Batch Creamery

Owned by sisters Theresa and Stacie, at Bliss celebratory desserts and colorful ice cream are a tradition, proclaiming that something truly special is happening. Birthdays, concerts, sports, the first day of school, the last day of school, a promotion, a finished project, a sunny day, the mountain is out, it’s Friday — there is something to be celebrated every day. YOLO. Carpe Diem. However you want to cut it, we’re in the middle of a freaking pandemic. Eat some cake.

Waffle Stop

A fresh take on the classic diner experience and family-owned, Waffle Stop proudly serves the Tacoma community only the finest breakfast and lunch fare. Locally sourced, made from scratch with the freshest ingredients, their unique creations are bridging the gap between breakfast and lunch in a major way. If a sweet tooth is your mode of operations, there’s a spot for you at this snazzy little spot in Proctor.

Waffle Stop was featured in This Is R City: Best of Breakfast, and showed off their very berry medley waffle and their oh so savory Nashville hot chicken and waffle

Pao’s Donuts

A slassic assortment of donuts, scones & muffins, plus hot & cold drinks, to stay or go all served with an extremely small business, friendly family owned business feel. Always fresh, hot, and full of air, we’d tack our hats to their donuts being as good as any other spot in Tacoma.

So there’s our take on the sweetest treats in Tacoma. Are we dead on? Completely wrong? Send feedback, pre-HTML websites, and pictures of your sun burns to ccatherwood@wertacoma.com.
