As summer unofficially starts, Cheney Stadium is hosting a packed week of soccer action. You may have noticed the MLS team is out of town during that same stretch. Don’t worry, live soccer isn’t far away. It’s right here at 19th & Tyler inside Tacoma’s historic Cheney Stadium.
We’re a bit closer to Mount Rainier/Tahoma than our neighbors to the north. The grand mountain rests just above the south goal and the grass berm. On the field you’ll see #TheFuture of the Seattle Sounders FC. Earlier this year, two of our Defiantly Tacoma boys earned contracts with the MLS club.
On that grass pitch you will also see one of the best women’s teams in global soccer. The stars of tomorrow (Bethany Balcer) and today (Lu Barnes) roam here at Cheney Stadium this year.
Between the two teams there are four games in the next two weeks. How’s that for feeding your live soccer needs?

Sunday May 26 – Tacoma Defiance drew Fresno FC Foxes 3-3.
Monday May 27 – Reign FC beat NC Courage 2-1.
